About
I’ve been the editor in chief and publisher of The Harrow for 11 years and own The Harrow Press. I’m also a fiction writer in the horror and fantasy genres and a professor in the communication department of California Lutheran University, where my current research interests are in the Western reception and development of boys’ love (”yaoi”) fiction from Japan. In that capacity, I maintain the Yaoi Research Wiki as a resource for scholars and fans.
I was born an Air Force brat and have lived in a variety of states: D.C., Alaska, Missouri, Utah, Illinois, and California. I spent most my high school years overseas in Naples, Italy, and I’ve revisited Italy three times since then, mostly to stay in Venice. I love traveling — it’s my No. 2 life priority, right after writing. I visited India this past winter and Australia this summer. I hope to make my first visit to Japan in 2010.
I love iguanas and have owned two; I’m currently iguana-less, because it’s hard to keep exotic animals and do a lot of traveling (”would you mind petsitting my five-foot-long reptile for a few weeks?”). My iguanas’ names were Hemlock and Belladonna, and I miss them! When I went to the Galapagos Islands it was very hard to resist picking up and hugging the marine iguanas, but I restrained myself. I’d like to own an iguana again, but not until I’ve stopped traveling and moving so often. Iguanas often feature in my dreams, and sometimes I have nightmares that wake me up, my heart pounding, in which one of my iguanas gets lost or dies. I’m not sure what that says about my subconscious….
I live a pretty simple lifestyle because if I didn’t keep things simple, I wouldn’t be able to balance — or afford — all my projects and interests.
You can find me and friend me as Dru Pagliassotti on FaceBook and LinkedIn. The Harrow Press has its own group page on Facebook, and The Harrow has a page on MySpace.
