Victorian & Gothic Lowbrow
Today I’m spending at home on a much-needed “writing day,” and while doing a little side research into Victorian-era tissue preservation chemicals — pre-formaldehyde — I ran across this fascinating website: Madame Talbot’s Victorian Lowbrow and Gothic Lowbrow. I’ve tagged this post as “steampunk,” even though what she offers on her site isn’t really steampunk; still, if you enjoy a darker Victorian aesthetic, you’ll probably find some of the curiosities for sale on her site tempting.
I have a little collection of antique poison bottles that my mother gave me, and I’d rather like to add the absinthe, arsenic, and embalming fluid bottles from Madame Talbot’s site to my glass display. Alas, I don’t think I can talk my frugal self into spending that much money for something with no practical use. Still, très cool.
Okay, back to work!
