I’m Cold!

Ashen Wings

ThermometerOK, so, it’s not snowing here, the way one of my friends tells me it’s been snowing in Seattle. It’s sunny, with a clear blue sky, and temperatures in the mid-60s. Yes, I’m living in Paradise. But right now Paradise is a bit chillier than I like — in the last few years, my tolerance for being cold has really plummeted! I don’t know why; I used to love this temperature. Not anymore. I’m hesitant to turn on the heater in the house where I’m boarding, however; such a waste of electricity, when I’m the only one home today! I went out yesterday to three stores looking for portable room heaters, only to find that they’ve long since been replaced by air conditioners and fans. Brrr.

It’s hard for me to write when I’m uncomfortable. My mind keeps getting drawn back to my cold fingers and toes instead of being immersed in my story. I’ve made myself a cup of tea in the hope that it’ll warm me up a little, and I’m sitting downstairs in the dining room where, for some reason, it feels a bit warmer. In a month or so, when I’ve moved back “over the grade” where the temperatures are typically ten degrees warmer, I have no doubt that I’ll look back on feeling chilly with longing. But not today!
