Firstly, secondly, thirdly, and so forth should be banned from the language. First, second, and third are perfectly good adverbs in their own right.
Serial commas are another issue, entirely.

Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey is disturbing, often distasteful (e.g., sniffing soiled menstrual pads, incestuous rape), and rather creative.
