Submissions & Publishing Woes

Short Stories

Just sent three horror flash stories about “California Hills University” off to Flash Me Magazine.

I don’t know what to do about my story “Ghosts of L.A.” It was accepted by Surreal Magazine, but Surreal has apparently all but collapsed. None of my queries to the editor have received an answer, and I’m not the only author who’s been left hanging. A series of author complaints on Surreal’s forums, which Ralan had linked to in the “semi & pro” section of his market website Ralan.com, have abruptly been deleted. Ralan now advises authors not to submit there anymore. So — do I withdraw my story and resubmit it elsewhere? It might fit Cohort Press’s anthology City Shadows. What’s the professional thing to do when a publication suddenly loses its professionalism?

In other publishing news, looks like DNA publications, which puts out several genre magazines, is being investigated for fraud by the Virginia State police, and one of the editors of a DNA magazine has resigned.
